Statement from VOICES Corporation
Ind. (August 28, 2025)—VOICES Corporation is heartbroken to share that Anthony, a beloved young man in the VOICES community, tragically lost his life to gun violence last weekend. On Monday, our students and staff gathered as a family to grieve. We prayed together, we cried together, and we brought in support so no one had to carry this pain alone.
Anthony was bright, kind, and full of potential. With us, he showed up, worked hard, and brought joy into our space. He had what so many of our youth deserve: enrollment in school, a safe space to be every day, a job with one of our community partners, and transportation to make it all possible. We did everything we thought he needed. But when he left us at the end of the day, he still had to return to environments and peer influences that did not share the same goals for his future. And in the end, those forces proved stronger.
This is the reality we face: even when we check every box, the systems and conditions surrounding our young people can undo progress and steal lives. That is why our fight cannot stop at providing programs; we must continue pushing to transform the environments and communities our youth are returning to every night.
We honor Anthony’s life by recommitting to this fight. We will continue to build spaces of healing, belonging, and opportunity, and we will not stop until every young person in Indianapolis has what they need, not just to survive, but to thrive.
VOICES continues to walk alongside our students, staff, and families in this moment, with grief counseling, safety planning, and resource coordination. Out of respect for Anthony’s family and our community’s healing, we will not be available for additional comment at this time.
