The Youth Violence Reduction Initiative (YVRI), led by VOICES in partnership with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform, the City of Indianapolis, and community organizations, continues to earn attention for its innovative, people-first approach to preventing youth gun violence.
A recent WTHR feature, “This Is Opportunity,” highlighted how the program surrounds young people aged 13–22—and their families—with therapy, mentoring, educational support, and job training to create lasting change. The story highlights YVRI’s mission to reach those most at risk and replace cycles of violence with hope and opportunity.
Local and regional media have echoed that message, noting how Indianapolis is positioning YVRI as a model for focused intervention and community healing. As other cities explore similar strategies, YVRI stands out as an example of what’s possible when organizations, government, and neighbors work together to save lives and strengthen communities.
